IMF assures Lungu of continued support

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has assured President Edgar Lungu of the Fund’s continued support for Zambia.

Managing Director Christine Lagarde says the IMF stands ready to continue supporting Zambia in every way possible through policy advice, technical assistance and financial support, if needed.

In a congratulatory message to President Lungu on His re-election as Sixth Republican President, dated September 14 from Washington, D.C., Lagarde has stated that President Lungu is beginning his new term at a time when Zambia is facing severe economic challenges, including adverse effects of lower copper prices and electricity shortages.

The IMF Managing Director wished the President every success as He works to improve the living standards of the Zambian people.

“On behalf of the International Monetary Fund, I congratulate you on your re-election to the office of the President of the Republic of Zambia,” Lagarde stated.

This is contained in a media statement issued by State House chief analyst for press and public relations, Cecilia Lubumbashi-Mulenga.
