GOVT WORKING TOWARDS ELEVATING SALARY SCALES FOR TEACHERS WHO HAVE UPGRADED THEIR ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

By Lukundo Nankamba

The Ministry of Education is urging teachers with degrees demanding a payroll equal to their qualifications to remain calm as government is still making audits.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Joel Kamoko has assured that government is working with the payroll management establishment to identify those eligible for the payroll positions available for upgrade.
Mr Kamoko says government is fully aware that many teachers have been making upgrades, but the increment in payroll cannot happen immediately because procedures must be followed.
Early this year the government said the 10,000 teachers who upgraded their academic qualifications would have their salary scales elevated but the affected teachers have lately been protesting against the delay to upgrade them.
