Govt to set up cannery in North-western Province

pineappleGovernment has embarked on a project to set up a Pineapple Cannery in Ikeleng’i district in North-western Province.

Ikeleng’i District Commissioner, Victor Kayekesi, disclosed this when he officiated at the 5th Agricultural, Mining, Industrial and Commercial show.

Kayekesi said preliminary works to set up a Pineapple Cannery in Ikeleng’i are progressing well.

He said government through the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) will work with local farmers to set up the cannery.

Kayekesi urged farmers in the district to work together in cooperatives to ensure the success of the Pineapple Cannery.
Meanwhile, Acting Ikeleng’i District Agriculture Coordinator, Malambo Mwale has appealed to farmers in Ikeleng’i to avoid carrying out their farming activities along the Zambezi River.

Mr Mwale observed that the Zambezi River is an important water channel that must not be disturbed as it is a watershed to several other rivers in the Country.
