GOVT SET TO INTRODUCE SI THAT WILL ILLEGALIZE USE OF SHALLOW WELLS

Water Development and Sanitation Minister Mike Mposha has disclosed that government through the Ministry of Health is set to introduce a Statutory Instrument –SI that will illegalize the use of shallow wells in communities across the country.
Speaking when he featured on the Friday edition of Let the People Talk Programme on Phoenix FM, Mr. Mposha says people who are castigating President Hakainde Hichilema for directing that all shallow wells be buried are doing so from an ignorant point of view without considering how shallow wells affect the fight against cholera.
Mr. Mposha explains that water from shallow wells is contaminated and therefore the directive by the head of state should be considered as a policy.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mposha says his ministry in collaboration with water utility companies is working towards the installation of solar fields in all pump stations to avoid having outages in the absence of electricity in order to address the erratic water supply experienced in some parts of the country.
