Govt Advised To Heighten Measures Aimed At Preventing Mismanagement Of Public Funds

Governance Activist Rueben Lifuka has advised the new dawn government to improve on internal controls and appoint qualified controlling officers to avoid the mismanagement of public funds that occurred under the Patriotic Front regime.

According to the 2020 Auditor General’s report, financial mismanagement has been on the rise during the last 10 years that the pf has been in power, with 2020 accounting for almost 32% of all the mismanaged resources between 2011 and 2020.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Lifuka says the UPND government should use this as a point of reference as they serve Zambians, ensuring adherence to the rule of law.

Mr. Lifuka is also of the view that Cabinet Ministers should not have direct control of how resources are managed in their respective ministries but must be left to relevant authorities in order to retain sanity in the system.
