GOVT ADVISED TO COME UP WITH A COMPREHENSIVE POLICY FRAMEWORK THAT SUPPORTS ADOPTION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Research fellow on Sustainable Development, Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change, Mulima Mubanga says Zambia will require a comprehensive policy framework that supports the adoption of electric vehicles to fully transition to the use of the vehicles.

Ms. Mubanga states that although government has shown commitment to reducing the country’s carbon emissions, and the adoption of electric vehicles, a critical factor that will influence Zambia’s readiness for the electric vehicle revolution is an enabling policy environment.

She tells Phoenix News that consumer attitudes towards electric vehicles will also play a critical role in determining Zambia’s readiness for this revolution as consumers need to be aware of the benefits of electric cars and be willing to adopt this new technology.

Ms. Mubanga adds that electric vehicles offer several benefits, including low fuel costs, reduced emissions, and better performance but many consumers are still unfamiliar with electric cars and a perception that they are expensive and have limited range hence the need for education and awareness campaigns.
