GEARS notes need for law reforms for Zambians in diaspora

MacDonald Chipenzi

Governance, Elections, Advocacy and Research Services (GEARS) Initiative Zambia has noted the need for the nation to undertake law reforms that will allow Zambians living in the diaspora to take part in elections following the introduction of the duo citizenship clause.

GEARS Executive Director MacDonald Chipenzi tells QTV News that it is quite expensive for Zambians to travel back home to vote when they can even vote from their countries of residence.

He feels that with the introduction of the duo citizenship, it is important that the laws are revised in order to allow Zambian citizens abroad to also take part in the voting process from their respective countries of residence without having to travel back home to vote.

Mr. Chipenzi states that in the absence of such laws, citizens in the Diaspora will continue being disfranchised.
