FODEP commends parties for conducting peaceful campaigns

Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Executive Director, Mweenge Chimfwembe has commended political parties participating in this Thursday’s by-elections for conducting peaceful campaigns so far.

Mr. Chimfwembe has told Q-news that while there have been some pockets of violence in some towns were by-elections will be held, the campaigns have generally been peaceful.

He notes that Lusaka has been violence free apart from incidents were campaign posters of rival parties have been defaced.
Mr. Chimfwembe says FODEP is looking forward to peaceful by-elections.

And Mr. Chimfwembe has commended the ruling Patriotic Front and the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) for committing to ending political violence by signing a peace pact.

He says his organization looks forwards to seeing how this peace agreement will sustain the peaceful political environment.
