Five people die in road traffic accident in Nyimba District, police say

FIVE people including the driver have died while one other person has sustained serious injuries in an accident which occurred at Renamo area in Nyimba District on Saturday.
The accident happened when the driver of the Truck in which they were in failed to negotiate a curve due to excessive speed and lost control of the vehicle hence fell into a ditch.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed this in a statement and identified the deceased as William Simonga of Lusaka’s Kanyama Compound also of Zampad Company who was driving who sustained head injuries and died on the spot.
Katongo said other people who died were four passengers who were on board namely; Isaac Phiri aged 37 years of Belekeya Village, Chief Kalindawalo in Petauke District;  an unknown male adult  of unknown address who sustained head injuries and died on the spot;  an unknown female adult of unknown address who also sustained suspected head injuries and died whilst admitted at Nyimba Hospital; and an unidentified female infant aged about nine months who sustained  suspected internal injuries and died on the spot.
Katongo said the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in Nyimba Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
She said one person identified as Misozi Mwale of Minga Village, Chief Mumbi of Petauke sustained injuries and is admitted in Chipata Central Hospital.
