Finally: Jerabos Granted Legal Access to Black Mountain

ALLYKitwe was this afternoon brought to a standstill when hundreds of small scale miners otherwise known as Jerabos celebrated the news that they will now have a stake in the running of the Black Mountain.

Mines Minister Richard Musukwa made the proclamation on his visit to Kitwe alongside Home Affairs minister Stephen Kampyongo and his Copperbelt counterpart saying the legal owners of the Black Mountain Alloys Smelting Limited will have to work with Jerabos.

The declaration is in direct response to the promise by President Edgar Lungu to find a way to empower Copperbelt youths through the Black Mountain which is a slug dump for copper.

Musukwa warned the youths against creating confusion.
The youths took over the Kitwe Central Business District chanting slogans in praise of President Edgar Lungu.

President Lungu on February 19 hosted Jerabos at State House and ordered that the court process between rival parties regarding the running of the Black Mountain in Kitwe be discontinued.

The Head of State brokered a truce that seems to have paved way for the new agreement announced by Musukwa.

President Lungu directed the various youth groups to form a unified cooperative company which Government will grant a large scale mining license under which the commercial interests of the groups will be executed.
