Film producers launch Professional Film Makers Guild of Zambia

Zambian film producers have launched the Professional Film Makers Guild of Zambia which will help bring about professionalism in the film industry as well as protect the industry from exploitation.

Guild Interim committee Chairperson Lawrence Thompson has lamented that currently players in the film industry do not get the returns and payments they deserve.

Speaking during the launch of the guild at the ministry of information and broadcasting services, Mr. Thomson says film making is a business and should therefore operate as such to create employment and protect the industry from exploitation.

He says currently, Zambia’s film content is of high quality and therefore the need to regulate and standardize it in order to safeguard it from exploitation.

Mr Thomson is confident that with the guild in place, writers, actors, crew members, producers and directors will be paid exactly what they deserve in a timely manner.

And Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Dora Siliya has pledged government’s commitment to support the local film industry.

She is happy that the players in the film industry have organized themselves to protect and standardize their sector.
