Farmer Agency Hopeful Of Attractive Maize Floor Price As FRA Announces Prices

By Lukundo Nankamba

The Small-Scale Farmers’ Development Agency –SAFADA- expects the price of maize to be announced by the food reserve agency –FRA- to offer farmers a better price in the 2021 marketing season.

FRA will today, 31st may announce prices at which the agency will be buying agricultural crops such as white maize (grade a), paddy rice, and soya beans during this year’s crop marketing season.

SAFADA Director Boyd Moobwe hopes that the agency has put into consideration the effort that farmers have put in the production of maize and will be offered a much higher price than the K110 per 50kg in previous seasons to enable them to get full cost recovery and make a profit.

Mr Moobwe observed that the K110 maize price for last year was not supporting farmers to continue with their various agricultural practices hence most farmers have continued to depend on the private sector to buy their products in order to get profits.
