Esau Chulu Regrets Hichilema’s Outburts

ECZ-Totalling centreThe Electoral Commission of Zambia says it was regrettable that United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema accused the institution of colluding with the Patriotic Front to rig elections after having had a cordial meeting.

And the ECZ says it is still on course to deliver election results within 48 hours after voting.

Hichilema demanded a meeting with the ECZ on Friday afternoon where he was given an opportunity to air his grievances among them the delay in releasing results.

The meeting was attended by other political party leaders and representatives but after the interaction Hichilema turned his arsenals at the ECZ accusing them of plotting to rig elections.

ECZ chairperson Justice Esau Chulu said the commission was independent and never took instructions from anybody.

“It is regrettable to hear that the commission is being accused of conniving to return the PF to power…I say with sincerity that we want to preserve the integrity of the ECZ,” he said.

“The result that will come out is the result that the voters have decided and the president will be the one the voters say should be their president.”

On the allegations that an unidentified person had illegally entered the IT room and got away with restricted information Chulu said the matter was still under investigation with the accused being in police custody.
