CROC KILL 18 YEAR-OLD GIRL

An 18 year-old girl of Mufulira has been attacked and killed by a crocodile whilst swimming on Lake Bangweulu.
Luapula Province Police Commissioner Elias Chushi who confirmed the incidence to ZANIS said, the girl has been identified as Precious Kaunda of Mufulira district – Copperbelt Province.
Mr. Chushi said upon receiving a report at around 18:37 hours, a combined team of police and department of National Parks and Wildlife officers rushed to the scene and a search for the deceased was conducted.
He said around 19:00 hours, a crocodile was spotted after it raised its head near Yatch Guest House, located on the shores of Lake Bangweulu.
Mr. Chushi  said an alert National Parks and Wildlife officer shot the crocodile in its head and it lost grip on the deceased whose body has been retrieved but was found with a crushed left leg and deep cut on the right thigh.
Facts are that Kaunda left Mufulira for Samfya last week after she completed writing her grade 12 examinations.
The deceased is believed to have followed her friends to Samfya without her parents’ consent.
