Copper Princesses Back Home from Uganda Mission

The Zambia U17 Women’s National Team is back in the country from Uganda where they sealed their place in the final round of the 2024 U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

A RwandAir flight carrying the Copper Princesses touched down at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka at 13h58.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga, general Secretary Reuben Kamanga, technical director Lyson Zulu  and Zambian Premier League chairperson Kephas Katongo were on hand to receive the team.

Kamanga congratulated the team for the showing resilience from the second stage of qualifiers where they overwhelmed Tanzania.

“On behalf of the FAZ executive committee, we wish to once again congratulate you for the job done. It wasn’t easy, it was a tough game but we managed to secure qualification to the final round,” Kamanga said.

“We expect to invest in preparation, the time is short and if it will be possible, we will organise an international friendly for you so that you can adequately prepare for the match against Morocco. We hope that you can make it to the World Cup.”

Coach Carol Kanyemba thanked FAZ and the nation for the support rendered to the team.

“There has been massive support to the girls and we really appreciate. We want to emulate our senior national team, the girls are geared and want to rewrite the history that was written by the U17,” Kanyemba said.

“we thank you for your support, we appreciate and we will work extra hard for our next game against Morocco, we will continue pushing,” captain Zangose Blessing Zulu said.

The Copper Princesses will meet Morocco in the first week of June in the fourth round after the team’s dispatched Uganda 2-1 and Algeria 8-0 on aggregate respectively to book their place in the final round.
