CONSTITUENCY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEES URGED TO PLAN IN ADVANCE TO ENSURE QUICK IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECTS

By Patricia Male

Ministry of Local Government Permanent Secretary Mambo Hamaundu is appealing to Constituency Development Committees –CDCs-to plan well in advance on how the k25.7 million consistency development fund –CDF- for 2022 allocated to each constituency will be apportioned.

Mr. Hamaundu has emphasized on planning for the utilization of the fund as opposed to the current situation where the k6.4 million CDF that was released in the first quarter of this year is sitting idle in local authorities waiting for approval of projects.

Reacting to complaints by people that some projects under CDF have been delayed to commence when money has been made available, Mr. Hamaundu tells Phoenix News that planning in advance will help ensure implementation of projects is hastened.

Mr. Hamaundu says Constituency Development Committees working with district development coordinating committees who have sites with integrated development plans will help execute CDF better and ensure development is seen quicker.

He adds that because CDF is meant to empower constituencies, planning becomes an imperative process and has urged the constituency development committees to plan for allocated funds now and beyond.
