Chaile Encourages Lungu To Emulate Wife’s Travel By Road

IT IS so inspiring for the first lady to realise that flying over citizens detaches leaders from the reality on the ground, says Radical Revolutionary Party president Vincent Chaile.

Commenting on first lady Esther Lungu’s statement that she travelled to Ndola by road to appreciate the sufferings of the people on the ground, Chaile wished President Edgar Lungu would take a leaf.

On Thursday, Esther travelled to and from Ndola by road and when asked why, she said flying over people would not help her see the challenges people were facing.

“You are flying…you are flying over people and you are not seeing what is happening on the ground. How do I see what the road network is like; if the roads are okay or not okay? We have to see this ourselves. Also there are people who are along the roads that are trading…how are they doing it, how are they fairing? There are people living along the road, there are lot of things happening along the road, there are people all over, people are on the ground, so I should be on the ground most of the time. I have to know where the roads are not okay and whether they are okay, I will still give a report,” Esther said.

But Chaile said President Lungu who was always airborne had lost touch with the suffering of the people on the ground.

“It is so inspiring for the first lady to have mentioned on ZNBC main news that she decided to go to the Copperbelt by road so that she can interact with the grassroots and see their sufferings. I wish madam first lady can also whisper to President Edgar Lungu who is fond of flying amidst purported austerity economic measure,” Chaile said.

He further noted that because of President Lungu’s constant air travel, he had no clue how dilapidated the roads that collect huge sums of money through tollgates were.

Chaile urged President Lungu to see the suffering of Zambians hands on than always being airborne.

“The husband has lost touch with the suffering of the people on the ground. I even wonder if we call for a general election today the President can survive in a free and fair election. When people are complaining that, ‘where do the money collected from the tollgates go’ because of potholes all over…the President should be able to see for himself what people are complaining of,” he said.

Chaile said people that surrounded President Lungu were economical with the truth and therefore urged the first lady to put him in the loop.

“It’s good that Madam first lady has realised early the importance of travelling by road. Moreover, she is the best advisor to the President. We are advising the President, come out of from the shield and face reality on the ground. The people shielding him today are not telling him the truth. The truth is that things are really economically bad on the ground,” said Chaile.
