Chaile Backs Expulsion Of Cuban Ambassador

Opposition Radical Revolutionary Party president Vincent Chaile has backed President Edgar Lungu’s decision to expel Cuban Ambassador to Zambia Nelson Pages for engaging in domestic politics.

Pages was a feature at the Socialist Party launch which convened on Saturday to anoint former Post Newspaper editor in chief Fred M’membe as its presidential candidate.

The Cuban envoy’s affiliation with the Socialist Party has not gone down well with Zambian authorities.

BELOW IS CHAILE’S CONTRIBUTION

For the first time we do agree with the govt to expel the Cuban Ambassador Nelson Pagés from Zambia for engaging into active politics when he is suppose to play the role of a referee on our political system.

Let’s be objective the Cuban ambassador used emotions when he was invited at the launch of the sociolist party ….

Diplomats are always encouraged to be sensitive and less emotional in the way that they interact with foreign governments.

They should be strategic in the way they handle foreign internal politics taking into considering the cultural and norms of that particular country.

There is nothing wrong for foreign diplomats to attend or being invited as guests by the opposition … but the greatest mistake the Cuban ambassador made was to give a speech and pledge loyalty to support the Socialist Party in public.
