CBU Workers Still Not Paid Their January 2020 Salaries

By Michael Kaluba

The Copperbelt University Academics Union-CBUAU- is disappointed with the failure by management to pay university workers their January 2020 salaries more than three weeks after pay date.

Union General Secretary Willie Ngosa says the trend of delayed salaries for the Copperbelt University employees has pushed the employees into ridicule and near destitution.

Mr. Ngosa has since accused both the CBU Management and Government of not valuing education especially that lectures’ salaries are delayed almost every month, a situation he says compromises the quality of education.

He has told Phoenix News that the union is concerned by the silence from the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Brian Mushimba and is disappointed that while government does not prioritize the payment of salaries to university workers, by-elections are funded at supersonic speed without hesitation.

And Mr. Ngosa has called on both CBU Management and Government to pay university workers their January salaries without further delay and source funds for the payment of the February 2020 salaries which are due in four days.

Higher Education Minister, Dr. Brian Mushimba could not be reached for a comment over the matter.
