CBU STUDENTS BOYCOTT CLASSES FOLLOWING KILLING OF 2 OF THEIR FELLOW STUDENTS

Following a road traffic accident that claimed the lives of two Copperbelt University students and left one seriously injured, Copperbelt University Students’ Union-COBUSU- President Castro Muliko has announced that there will be no classes or tests at the institution until further notice.
The COBUSU president has said students will be dressed in all black regalia to peacefully protest the killings of their fellow students.
Meanwhile, students at Copperbelt University Riverside Main Campus last night from around 22:30 hours until about midnight ran amok looting two stores, burning some mobile money booths, and blocking Jambo drive with stones.
According to Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba, the confusion arose after three male students were hit by a moving car, killing 22-year-old Thabo Mumbi instantly and Hanschel Bwalya who died at the hospital while Josphat Muyambwa is still admitted at Kitwe Teaching Hospital.
Mr. Mweemba says calm has since retained at the learning institution and that an update on the status of the admitted student will be provided later.
And a check by Phoenix News this morning found the institution calm with students dressed in all black assembled for a peaceful match within campus in a solemn tone to confirm their student union leadership’s statement of halted classes.
