CBU Records 2 Covid-19 Deaths

The Copperbelt University -CBU- has recorded 2 covid-19 deaths and 1 new case bringing the number of active cases in the university isolation facility to 6 from a cumulative 205 covid-19 cases recorded so far.

Making the revelation during a media breakfast meeting in Kitwe today, University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Paul Chisami further disclosed that a total of 449 tests were conducted by the university against the 13,000 student population out of which 205 cases have so far been recorded with 197 recoveries.

Engineer Chisami further disclosed that the university received 23,000 masks from the Ministry of Higher education and 6000 from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit –DMMU.

At the same event, CBU dean of students Stylish Magida said completion of the stalled CBU student hostels will not end accommodation challenges at the university as it will only increase bed space from the current 2,232 to 4000 against the current student population of 13000.

Ms. Magida also revealed that CBU is having challenges in monitoring and controlling covid-19 guidelines compliance for the student population majority of whom are in private boarding houses.

Meanwhile, Copperbelt University has indicated its intentions to increase its student population from 13,000 to 25,000 through its established institutions and imminent satellite compasses which will be dotted across the nation to reach students from rural Zambia.
