CALL ON ACC TO TAKE KEEN INTEREST IN ALLEGED CORRUPTION IN THE MINING SECTOR

By Michael Kaluba

The Emerald Production Watch of Zambia is urging the Anti-Corruption Commission-ACC- to take keen interest in the alleged corruption in the mining sector especially in the issuance of licenses at the ministry of mines.

Emerald Watch Of Zambia President Musa Kafimbwa says the ACC must investigate the recently highlighted anomalies that had characterized the Zambian mining system following an audit which led to the extension of suspension of the issuance of mining licenses at the ministry of mines.

Mr. Kafimbwa has also challenged the ACC to initiate investigations on serving government officials with accusations of involvement into suspected corruption activities to balance the fight against graft alleging that the ministry of mines has been one of the most corrupt in the last decade.

He has further noted the need for government to show sincere leadership regarding numerous challenges hindering the much needed progress in the mining sector and to provide direction to allow for the sector to thrive.
