BuyZed opposes importation of GMOs

BuyZed campaign has joined the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) in opposing the importation of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) into the country.

Campaign founder Evans Ngoma says his organization finds it unfortunate that the country is allowing the importation of gmos when it has capacity to produce a lot of agricultural products.

Mr. Ngoma tells q-news that the people of Zambia should say no to GMOs.

He has urged Zambians to deliberately prefer locally produced goods over all other imported products.

Mr. Ngoma says allowing the importation of genetically modified products will pose a threat to the growth of the country’s agriculture sector.

He says allowing importation of gmos also has the potential to affect Zambia’s ability to attain the middle income status.
