BAY FC coach explains Rachel Kundananji’s absence

Bay FC head coach Albertin Montoya explained the reason behind Racheal Kundananji’s absence in the 2-1 loss to Chicago Red Stars.

Kundananji watched from the bench as her side suffered a fourth straight loss in the NWSL regular season.

The most expensive female football player in history suffered a knock on her calf hence the technical bench deciding not to risk her and avoid doing more damage.

“She was not (available)… She tweaked her calf yesterday. It’s a very long season, and we didn’t want to risk her doing more damage to her calf,”  he said.

Bay FC grabbed an early 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the match, but surrendered a goal in each half, falling 2-1 to the Chicago Red Stars at PayPal Park on Sunday evening.

Tess Boade tallied the lone goal for Bay FC, registering her second goal of the campaign.

Chicago leveled matters on the 30th minute mark, sending the two teams into the halftime break tied at 1-1 thanks to a goal from Penelope Hocking.

Chicago grabbed the lead in the 63rd minute through a long-distance shot by Ally Schlegel.

The loss means Bay FC drop to 12th place with only six points after eight games.

Next up for Kundananji and Bay FC is a return to the road, traveling to square off against the Orlando Pride and on song Barbra Banda
