Banda counters World Vision’s injunction application in High Court

Public health expert Beck Banda has filed an affidavit in the High Court in opposition to an application by World Vision to restrain him from publishing or saying anything against the organization.

This is after World Vision sued Dr. Banda for defamation relating to the use of the Safe Motherhood Action Groups (SMAGs).

Dr. Banda, who claims SMAGs is his innovation, has accused World Vision and over 40 other organizations of infringing its copyright.

But after suing him for defamation, World Vision had gone further to file an affidavit in support of ex-parte summons for an order of interim injunction to restrain him from publishing anything against it.

In his affidavit in opposition filed in the High Court on Tuesday,19th February, Dr. Banda has however maintained that he is the innovator of SMAGs and has narrated how the innovation came to be.

The matter, which is before High Court Judge Maria Kawimbe is scheduled for hearing  on Thursday, 21st February on the application for the interim injunction filed by World Vision.

Dr. Banda’s lawyers, from Keith Mweemba Advocates, are today also expected to file his defence and counter claim to the defamation lawsuit.

And in an interview with QTV News, Dr. Banda has expressed happiness that the matter has finally gone to Court.
