Baby boy, aged One and half, dies after he was knocked down by a reversing car in Kitwe

A ONE and half year old baby boy of Kitwe’s Ngozi street in Riverside extension had died after being hit by a car.

The baby identified as Micheal Sakai died yesterday after he was hit by Foton Tunland registration number ACV 419 which was reversing.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has confirmed this in a statement in Lusaka today.

He says the baby died upon arrival at Kitwe Central Hospital while the driver of the vehicle is in police custody and has been charged and arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.

In a related development, two people have died in separate road accidents.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says one of the accidents happened yesterday around 16:40hrs in Pemba district of Southern province.

“The accident involved a rider identified as Bernard Chikombwe who improperly overtook a Ford Ranger Registration number 6216 EN and in the process went to hit into an oncoming motor vehicle and died on spot,” says Hamoonga.

And in Chipata Eastern province, Hamoonga says another accident happened yesterday around 17:40hrs near Chiparamba giveway along the Chipata-Mfuwe road.

“In this one, an identified pedestrian died in a hit and run road traffic accident,” says Hamoonga.

He has disclosed that the bodies of the deceased are lying in Kitwe Central Hospital Mortuary, Pemba Hospital Mortuary, and Chipata General Hospital Mortuary respectively awaiting postmodern.

Hamoonga has since appealed to residents of Chiparamba giveway who may be missing a relative to go to Chipata General Hospital mortuary to help with the identification of the deceased.
