By Michael Kaluba Some unionized workers at the Copperbelt University-CBU are disappointed with the 2.5 to 4 percent salary increment being offered by management for the year 2022 despite there being no salary increment in 2021 due to stalled negotiations. The Copperbelt University workers who spoke to Phoenix News on condition of anonymity have alleged that management is offering The Copperbelt University Academics Union-CBUAU- an increment of 2.5 percent, while unions representing other staff and the general workers are being offered 3.5 percent and 4 percent respectively. The workers have discredited the ongoing negotiations between leaders from the three stakeholder unions and the institution management saying the offers from management are inadequate especially that there was no conclusion to the 2021 negotiations for salaries and conditions of service. The workers argue that most institutions that have recently announced salary increments for workers have offered 10 percent as a minimum hence it is unacceptable for CBU to offer only up to 4 percent to the workers And when contacted, representatives of the unions declined to comment on the matter saying it is currently under consideration for negotiations while the University Registrar Mrs. Hellen Mukumba could not be reached by broadcast time as her mobile phone went unanswered.
