AMSC Demands For The Formation Of A Mines And Minerals Regulatory Board

By Michael Kaluba

The Association of Mine Suppliers and Contractors has called on the government to establish the mines and minerals regulatory board to monitor the behavior and the performance of the country’s mining sub-sector.

Association president Augustine Mubanga has lamented the lack of a regulatory board to monitor the performance and implementation of some mining policies aimed at promoting the participation of local suppliers and contractors in the mines.

Mr. Mubanga has also lamented the alleged disregard of the law by some Chinese-owned mines who have not endeavored to partner and provide business opportunities for the local suppliers and contractors despite the 20 percent sub-contracting provision.

The Association of Mine Suppliers and Contractors President is of the view that government compels mining firms to equally apply the existing laws in the mining sector as opposed to the previous trend.
