ALREADY EXISTING COMPANIES OPERATING AT BLACK MOUNTAIN FEELING SIDELINED BY NEW DAWN

By Michael Kaluba

Chapamo Mineral Resources, an umbrella company for small scale miners that operated at Kitwe’s Black Mountain is disturbed that the legally existing entity may need to form a cooperative to benefit from the slug dump.

Chapamo Director Kelvin Tembo, who last month disclosed that his firm has been sidelined by the new dawn administration’s new model of operation at the site, says it remains unclear what role government would assign his group and that all communication made to relevant authorities has not been responded to yet.

Mr. Tembo has told Phoenix News that as a legally binding company, Chapamo should have been engaged as opposed to expecting the organization to downgrade to a cooperative for its members to continue benefiting from the black mountain.

He adds that being a major stakeholder who made a lot of progress with operations at the black mountain, there should have been a part of the new system considered for the small scale miners.

A check by Phoenix News at the black mountain yesterday revealed that operations under the new system have begun with the new dawn administration drawing over 400 youths and women cooperatives from all the 10 districts of the province that includes 15 chiefs in the mining area.
