Zondwa

The PF government after an outcry from members of the public especially men have now allowed South African Dancer Zondwe Wabantu to enter Zambia but not to perform.

Sunset Sound Production has confirmed in their latest update that the much anticipated Dancer known for not wearing pants will be in Zambia as scheduled on the 10th of March but will not be allowed on the stage.

Zondwe was expected to be Master of ceremonies at the Karasa album launch.

Below is the press statement:

8th March, 2018.

SUNSET Sound Production regrets to inform the general public that the National Arts Council (NAC) has rejected our application for clearance of Zodwa to perform as Master of Ceremonies at the Karasa album launch slated for 10th March, 2018.

In their rejection letter, the Council stated that we, as promoters of the event, did not meet the three months notice requirement and that Zodwa’s performances were not in public interest and undermined our national values. The National Arts Council cited the NAC Act 31 of 1994 (CAP 170 of the Laws of Zambia).

We did however appeal to the Minister through the Permanent Secretary and went further to have a meeting at his office, however, we were informed in writing that our appeal could only be reviewed by the Minister of Tourism, who unfortunately happens to be on national duty in Germany.

However, the good news is that the Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs made it clear that the government did not ban Zodwa from entering Zambia.

Because we have already paid Zodwa’s performance fees, air ticket and accommodation, we have resolved to host Zodwa Wabantu just as a mere guest during the album launch.

We therefore, wish to state that due to the fact that the National Arts Council did not issue a certificate for her to perform in Zambia Zodwa will not allowed to be on stage. She will just be a mere spectator.

We would like to urge our supporters who were looking forward to seeing Zodwa Wabantu to come in numbers and have a chance at interacting with her and other guests.

Sincerely,

Lucky Cheelo Munakampe
Proprietor,

Sunset Sound Production.
