7-year-old girl sodomized by 50- year old neighbour, Police say

AMID simmering anger across the country against the brutal violence against women and children. Another barbaric incident of a seven-year-old girl being sodomized has come to light in Nchelenge District. The girl was sodomized allegedly by a 50-year-old man who was her next door neighbour.
The suspect identified as Mikaliyo Bwalya is alleged to have had canal knowledge of the girl when her mother left her under the care of the wife to the suspect as she went for a night over at a funeral.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has told Mwebantu in a statement that the mother to the victim on Wednesday went to spend a night at a funeral within the village and left her daughter in the custody of her neighbour, because her husband had gone out on a drinking spree.
“Unfortunately, her neighbour also proceeded to spend a night at the same funeral and the child was left in the custody of the neighbour’s husband Makaliyo Bwalya,50,” Katongo narrated.
Katongo said as the suspect was in the act of sodomising the victim, the girl’s father returned and heard his daughter crying from his neighbour’s house.
Katongo said the suspect is in Police custody and will appear in court soon.
