37 killed on Zambian roads during the Independence Day holiday weekend, police say

ROAD traffic accidents claimed the lives of 37 people while 56 others sustained injuries during the Independence Day holiday weekend between 23rd October and 28th October 2019.
And police say they raised K374, 751 in admission of guilt fines by traffic offenders.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has told Mwebantu in a statement last week that during the same period, 210 road accidents were recorded of which, 19 were fatal and 29 were serious while 44 were slight accidents in which 53 persons were slightly injured.
Katongo said Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of accidents with 68 in which 12 deaths were recorded while Copperbelt had 32 accidents with two deaths, and Central Province had 28 accidents with two deaths among others.
And Katongo has attributed most of the accidents to excessive speed, failing to maintain the lane, and Misjudging clearance distance.
