1, 781 households in Kalomo Central to receive relief food

Government has earmarked the distribution of 2, 957 metric tons of relief Maize in Mitwi Ward in Kalomo Central Parliamentary Constituency in western Province.
Minister in the Office of the Vice President Syvia Chalikosa says government is aware of the looming hunger situation in Mitwi Ward of Kalabo Central Constituency in western province.
Ms. Chalikosa was responding to a question by Kalabo Central Member of Parliament Chiinga Miyutu who wanted to know whether the Government is aware that the residents of Mitwi Ward in Kalabo Central Parliamentary Constituency are on the verge of starvation due to the poor rainfall pattern.
Mr. Miyutu also wanted to know whether there are any plans to send relief food to the area; and if so, when the relief food will be sent to the area.
In her response, Ms. Chalikosa said Mitwi ward has 1, 781 affected households.
She has told Parliament that government has so far released 100 metric tons of relief food to the district.
