ZULAWU Calls for Protests over Council Salary Arrears

The Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union (ZULAWU) have threatened a countrywide protest for their two months salary delays.

General Secretary Emmanuel Mwansa has stated that over 90% Councils in the Country have not paid salaries to workers for June and July 2018.

He said it is however disappointing that Local Government Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga is informing the nation that only a few councils have not received equalisation fund.

Mwansa said such a statement is disturbing to workers who have gone two months without their pay.

He has demanded that Councils workers be paid failure to which will result in country wide protests over the non-payment of salaries.

“We are appealing to the Permanent Secretary not to mislead the workers who have suffered for so long with regard to payment of salaries, we also wish to inform him that not all Councils are up to date in paying workers, 90% of Councils have not paid salaries for two months,” Mwansa stated.
