ZRL targets US$ 23M revenue by end of 2018 – Linyama

The Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) has increased its revenue by 25 percent following the introduction of the Transport Statutory Instrument on heavy and bulk cargo.

ZRL board chairperson Lubinda Linyama says his company has also increased the haulage tonnage by 25 percent.

Mr. Linyama states that the ZRL’s goal is to reach a target tonnage of 800, 000 and revenue of US$ 23 million by the end of 2018.

Speaking when the railway company fulfilled its 2014 financial commitment to declare K100, 000 dividends to the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Mr. Linyama acknowledged that in order to achieve this target, there will be need to invest in additional rolling stock and track rehabilitation.

Mr. Linyama says the vision of the ZRL is to grow its business so that it can equally declare bigger dividends to the IDC.

He says the declared K100, 000, dividend which the ZRL carried over from the 2014 financial year when it made a minimal profit, is therefore the beginning of bigger things to come.

And IDC board member Geoffrey Sakulanda who received the K100, 000 cheque on behalf of the corporation has encouraged ZRL to continue on a growth trajectory path.

Professor Sakulanda says the IDC will remain supportive to the ZRL in its endeavor to grow its business.
