ZRA, ZICA agree to strengthen integrity of financial systems

By Mary Kachepa

The Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants -ZICA- aimed at strengthening the integrity of financial systems.

The MoU also targets to achieve greater harmonisation on matters such as complaints against Accountants and information on quality assurance for audit firms.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka today, ZICA Chief Executive Officer ANTHONY BWEMBYA said the partnership will facilitate capacity building and training programmes to enhance competences of Boards of Directors on taxation, accounting, auditing and ethics.

Mr. BWEMBYA said this will contribute to a more competent and capable workforce.

Meanwhile ZRA Commissioner General DINGANI BANDA said the Authority wants ZICA and its membership to be ambassadors in the prevention of various tax evasion schemes.

Mr. BANDA said the collaboration is also meant to influence voluntary tax compliance among the business community.
