Zimbabwe’s MDC Alliance senior member, Tendai Biti arrested

Zimbabwe’s MDC Alliance senior member, Tendai Biti has been arrested at Chirundu border as he tried to seek asylum in Zambia.

Mr. Biti faces charges of inciting violence following disputed elections in Zimbabwe.

His lawyer Ngobizitha Mulilo has confirmed to ENCA News monitored by Q-news that Mr. Biti was arrested this morning around 09:00 hours after he presented himself to Zambia Immigration officials to seek asylum.

Mr. Mulilo says after presenting himself to Immigration officials at Chirundu border, the officials then informed Zimbabwe Police who came and arrested.

He says Zambian authorities should respect international law by subjecting Mr. Biti to the normal processes of seeking political asylum.
