Lusaka, Zambia24 – (16-07-2024) – The Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) has launched its strategic plan for 2024-2028, aiming to elevate marketing standards, promote innovation, and provide professionals with strategic insights to excel in Zambia’s dynamic business environment over the next five years.
Mwewa Besa ZIM president told journalists during launch held at Pamodzi Hotel that his Institute is committed to elevating the marketing profession and driving sustainable business growth in Zambia.
He said the plan, themed “Elevate-Innovate-Thrive,” aims to foster innovation, strategic insights, and professional empowerment among members to propel businesses forward.
Besa expressed gratitude to attendees, emphasizing the collaborative effort needed to achieve the institute’s goals.
He invited stakeholders to envision a future where marketing plays a pivotal role in Zambia’s economic landscape, promoting prosperity through strategic business practices.
Mrs. Lilian Bwalya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, who was represented by a Mr Nalituba C Mwale commended ZIM for aligning with national development priorities and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), highlighting its role in bolstering trade and investment through effective marketing practices.
“The strategic plan underscores our commitment to enhancing Zambia’s marketing sector by strengthening the regulatory framework, enhancing professional development programs, and fostering collaboration with industry, academia, and government,” she emphasized.
She outlined critical areas of focus for ZIM, stating, “Our strategic plan prioritizes professional development, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement to bolster the institute’s capacity in regulating marketing practices effectively across Zambia.”
The launch event, attended by representatives from government agencies, private sector organizations, and marketing professionals, signifies a significant milestone in implementing the Zambia Institute of Marketing Act, 2022, aimed at promoting and regulating the marketing profession nationwide.
“I am honored to be here today as the guest of honor for the launch of the Zambia Institute of Marketing’s Strategic Plan for 2024-2029,” Mrs. Bwalya stated. “This plan not only guides the Institute’s focus over the next five years but also fuels growth in Zambia’s marketing sector.”
Mrs. Bwalya emphasized the critical role of marketing in driving economic growth, stating, “Marketing plays a crucial role in driving brand awareness, consumer demand, and economic growth. A robust marketing sector fosters innovation, competitiveness, and job creation—essential elements for a thriving economy like ours.”
“In today’s dynamic world, effective marketing strategies are indispensable,” she continued. “They enable businesses to identify consumer needs, differentiate themselves, and cultivate enduring customer relationships, thereby driving sales, enhancing loyalty, and contributing to sustainable business growth and economic health.”
Reflecting on ZIM’s impact, Mrs. Bwalya noted, “The Zambia Institute of Marketing has been pivotal in shaping the country’s marketing landscape. Through professional development, ethical standards, and advocacy, the Institute empowers its members to excel, equipping marketers with the skills, knowledge, and ethical grounding needed in today’s marketplace.”
She highlighted the Institute’s commitment to continuous learning, stating, “The Institute’s dedication to continuous learning is evident through its wide array of programs—certifications, workshops, seminars, and conferences—that keep members abreast of industry trends. This dedication not only benefits marketers individually but also elevates the entire profession, setting high standards nationwide.”
“I am confident that today’s launch of the Strategic Plan will effectively guide the Institute,” Mrs. Bwalya remarked.
“The plan outlines specific goals, focuses, and measurable benchmarks for success, including strategies to enhance engagement, expand development opportunities, and promote ethical marketing practices.”
She urged ZIM to remain steadfast in implementing these strategies, stating, “I urge the Zambia Institute of Marketing to remain steadfast in implementing these strategies, using the plan as a catalyst for growth and innovation within the profession.”
Mrs. Bwalya emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “Collaboration is pivotal in today’s interconnected world.
“By engaging with other professional bodies, educational institutions, government agencies, and the private sector, the Institute can amplify its impact and foster a vibrant marketing ecosystem. Together, we can leverage expertise, share resources, and drive innovation in Zambia’s marketing sector.”
“The Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry stands ready to support the Institute’s endeavors,” she assured, “aligning with national goals for sustainable economic growth.”
“As we launch this Strategic Plan, our collective efforts and commitment will determine our success,” Mrs. Bwalya concluded.
“I urge all stakeholders—Zambia Institute of Marketing members, partners, and the business community—to actively engage and support its implementation. Together, we can ensure that the Institute continues to drive positive change and progress in our country.

The strategic plan revolves around six key pillars: advocacy, education, research, events, membership, and governance. These pillars are designed to tackle industry challenges, foster sustainable business growth, and enhance trade and investment, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.
