ZEMA TO REGULATE VEHICLE CARBON EMISSIONS

BY EPHRAIM CHILUBA

The Zambia Environmental Management Agency -ZEMA- says it is in the process of setting up standards to regulate Carbon emissions by  vehicles.

ZEMA Corporate Affairs Manager FRIDAY PHIRI says once the standards are set and the right equipment to measure carbon emission is procured, vehicles exceeding the carbon emission threshold will NOT be allowed on the Zambian roads.

Mr. PHIRI says this is in order to contribute towards the fight against devastating effects that come with climate change especially as the country shifts towards achieving a Green economy.

He was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News shortly after this month’s Car Free Day spearheaded by Zambia Road Safety Trust.

And Zambia Road Safety Trust Chairperson DANIEL MWAMBA said the Car Free Day needs more support from all stakeholders.

Mr. MWAMBA said it does NOT only help raise Road Safety Awareness for pedestrians and cyclists but also good for health and Environmental protection.
