ZARI conducting research on fertilizer suitability

The Zambia Agricultural Research Institute -ZARI- has started conducting on-farm trials to identify types and application rates of fertilizers that can be recommended nationwide.

Speaking during a field day in Nkole Mfumu Agricultural Camp, ZARI Principle Agricultural Research Officer BRIAN GONDWE has told NAIS in Kasama district that the fertilizer response trials are being conducted in 19 districts in ecological regions two and three.

This is being done under the Sustainable Opportunities for Improving Livelihoods with Soils -SOILS-Space to Place -S2P- program in Zambia.

Mr. GONDWE said the program intends to help farmers know site-specific fertilizer combinations that can be used on a particular common crop without wastage.

He said Zambia has different soil nutrients which farmers need to know to fully benefit from their investment in farming business.
