Zanaco, Nkwazi share spoils

Sensational Zanaco were held to a goalless draw by High Flying Nkwazi as the two teams squared off in a rescheduled week 20 fixture at Sunset Stadium.

Coach Chris Kaunda made four changes to the team that suffered a humiliating 3-nil thrashing in midweek at the hands of Nkana as Toaster Nsabata, Lawrence Chungu, and William Njobvu dropped to the bench while Romaric Petroipa did not make the team. Racha Kola, Kelvin Kapumbu, Moses Phiri, and Saith Sakala all started today as Kaunda named a strong starting line up.

The Bankers started strong with Moses Phiri and Charles Zulu being very busy creating chances and going past Nkwazi defenders with easy but the Bankers strikeforce was blunt and failed to make anything worthwhile in the final third.

Nkwazi had the best chance of the first half but Christopher Zulu failed to make use of it and after Racha Kola nearly made a mess of it, Bekchance Mekiese cleared. Zanaco’s best chance was a shot from outside the box by Roger Kola which was parried away for a corner.

In the second half changes started ringing with Davy Kalandanya coming on to replace Sebastian Mwansa for Nkwazi while Zanaco brought in Boyd Musonda for Moses Phiri.

Musonda and Kalandanya brought in some energy and the tempo of the game improved but still, no clear cut chances were made.

Zanaco were reduced to ten men four minutes to time after Belchance Makiese was given marching orders following a second bookable offense.

The match ended 0-0, Zanaco continue their winless streak with Nkwazi picking their third point against Zanaco in ten games at Sunset Stadium.

Next for Zanaco is a trip to Choma to play Green Eagles on Wednesday while Nkwazi travels to Mufulira to face Wanderers next weekend.

Today’s goalless draw at Zanaco is the first point we have picked up away at Zanaco since June 6th which was back in 2015. It ended 1-1

This means for the first time in as many Seasons Zanaco have failed to beat us in a single season. #wearepolicemen
