Zampost Refutes NDC Claims That Ferry Charges To Chilubi Have Been Hiked

By Lindah Cheleka

The Zambia Postal Services (ZAMPOST) has refuted claims by National Democratic Congress –NDC- Leader Chishimba Kambwili that it has hiked ferry charges on Lake Bangweulu ahead of the Chilubi parliamentary by elections.

Brighton Ngoma, the ZAMPOST acting Postmaster General tells Phoenix News that the Company is charging k8, 500 to people who have booked the entire ferry and k500 to people who want to be ferried to the island.

He explains that the ferry uses about 400 litres of fuel to go to Chilubi Island hence the company cannot charge people transporting their vehicles K500 as it would be a loss on their part.

Mr. Ngoma has clarified that the ferry is available to any political party and will take any person who pays or books it in advance.

Last week, Mr. Kambwili complained that ZAMPOST, the owners of the ferry in Chilubi Island have hiked fares from K500 and K700 to K10, 000 per vehicle saying this would inhibit access to Chilubi Island for campaigns in the forthcoming by-election.
