The 2019 MTN/FAZ transitional Super League comes to an end this coming weekend with mouth watering games across the country on Saturday and Sunday. However before we conclude the season the ZamFoot Crew looks back at last weekend as they put together their team of the week .
A number of players had great games from Petrus Tshitembi’s mesmerising of the fans at Nkoloma Stadium to Belchance Makiesa versatility and Sydney Kalume proving that age is just a number.
Team of the week.
GK: Johua Manyongo (Mufulira Wanderers ): Manyongo was in tip top form on Saturday despite conceding a goal he made crucial saves to help Mighty Mufulira Wanderers pick a point against free scoring Zanaco.
LB: Ocean Mushure ( Lusaka dynamos): The Zimbabwean left back put in a great shift for Lusaka dynamos and was always available to support the Elite play in attack as well very composed and compact in defence.
RB: Benedict Chepeshi ( Red Arrows): The Airmen right back has finally found his form and is enjoying his game. Chepeshi is justifying why coach Aggrey Chiyangi has been calling him to the national team with fantastic performances, Against Nakambala Leopards he was among the best Red Arrows players helping them to a three nil win.
CB: Belchance Makiesa (Nkwazi ): He showed hunger and dedication.Started the game in central defence but ended up as a makeshift centre forward. Won all his aerial duels.
CB: Warren Kunda (Green Eagles): The former Mighty Mufulira Wanderers defender seems to have found his place in the Eagles nest. Kunda was compact at the back for Eagles and also scored a goal. He was even voted fans man of the match.
DMF:Linos Makwaza (Power dynamos): The Zambian football royalty had arguably his best game so far this season . He gave his best and scored plus assisted another despite Power dynamos giving away a two nil lead to draw 2-2.
DMF: Sydney Kalume (Lusaka dynamos): The former Nkana captain keeps getting better with age and there is no telling when he will slow down. Kalume was all over the pitch, did all the dirty work and protected his defence well to make sure Lusaka dynamos kept a clean sheet beating Zesco United one nil.
CM: Klings Kangwa (Buildcon): The Zambia U23 national team midfield ace is a rare gem and he again proved that last weekend as he overrun the Nkana midfield. He created a number of chances although his strikers failure to convert. He was unlucky not to.have scored in the first half as he came close.
LMF: Bruce Musakanya (Red Arrows ): The Red Arrows Captain was in devastating form against Nakambala Leopards as he has been all season . He gave the Sugar Boys defenders a tough time and took responsibility converting from the spot.
RMF: Petrus Tshitembi (Lusaka dynamos ): The Namibian midfielder left Zesco United players chasing shadows at Nkoloma Stadium and made a great combination with Mousa Lemisa and Marvin ‘The Marvel’ Jere. He was always a threat whenever he went upfront.
AMF: Austin Muwowo (Forest Rangers ) : The Genius as he is fondly referred to, Austin Muwowo led a Forest Rangers resurgence in the second half at Arthur Davies Stadium helping them to rescue a point as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2.
CF : Dingani Banda (Circuit City) : Dingani wasn’t on target but he had a better all round game than most strikera. Workaholic and was very aggressive. He did well to bring the likes of Biston Banda into the game. It was his first of the season. He has been injured
Player of the week : Makiesa – He showed hunger and dedication.Started the game in central defence but ended up as a makeshift centre forward.
When Nkwazi decided to go route one, he was the man gave the team the energy to earn a point. He won all the his 6 aerial duels in the last 10 minutes after he was deployed upfront. He was singled out by the fans for his effort.
Coach of the week: Ian Bakala – While there’s still debate about the involvement of Patrick Phiri at Lusaka Dynamos, there’s no doubt that the former Chipolopolo jersey no.10 is making his name for himself.
Six months ago, Bakala, was coaching in the amature leagues [Zambian 5th tier ] but fortunately, the former Zimbabwean and Angolan based midfielder was given the mantle to take over the Elite.
Special Mentions:
Mousa Lemisa: He had a great game in midfield. He covered more ground than most players and was basic in his play.
Clement Mwape : was also impressive for Zesco. Comfortable and calm on the ball. He was able to play from the back. Age and height against him in that position but was very good.
Kwame Attram, Kelvin Malunga, Saddam Yussuf, James Chamanga, Yvan Mballa, Kennedy Musonda and Marvin Jere.
