ZAMBIA’S TEENAGE SENSATION HEADING TO SPAIN FOR TRIALS

Zambia’s Tisilile Lungu and Jessica Wade from South Africa will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Spain next year courtesy of LaLiga after being rewarded for their performances at the 2020 COSAFA Women’s Under-17 Championship that finished this past weekend.

Tisilile was named as the 2020 COSAFA Women’s Under-17 Championship player of the tournament for her splendid performance that helped Zambia reach the final where they lost to Tanzania on post-match following poor officiating by Botswana referee Itumeleng Beauty Methikga denying them a clear goal and awarding Tanzania a dubious penalty.

The Kafue Celtic forward told COSAFA website that she is excited with the opportunity of heading to Spain and wants to emulate Copper Queens skipper Barbara Banda who played in Spain and is now based in China.

“I’m so excited and I’m looking forward to meeting other people and to learn from them,” she told COSAFA

“I do admire her, I also want to reach the position where Babra Banda is. I also want to be there,” she added.

The teenage sensation will become the second Zambian to head to Spain under similar connections after Zambia Men’s Under 20 star Patrick Gondwe had a 2 weeks trial at Numancia.

Gondwe was named MVP at the 2019 Cosafa U20 edition in Lusaka.

The 19-year-old is currently at Nkana but missed Wednesday’s thrashing at the hands of Green Buffaloes as he is in camp with the Zambia U-20 national team.
