Zambians in Ethiopia Celebrate 55th Independence Anniversary


ZAMBIANS resident in Ethiopia led by ambassador to Ethiopia, His Excellency Emmanuel Mwamba celebrated Zambia’s 55th Independence Anniversary at a colourful ceremony held at Skylight Hotel.
The event was graced by invited foreign diplomats and other dignitaries.

And in his address to the guests, Mr. Mwamba sent messages of congratulations on behalf of His Excellency President Edgar Lungu, to the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr Ahmed Abiy for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
He said the prize encouraged all those leaders in Africa that sought to establish durable peace and national development.
Mr. Mwamba said the Embassy had formed the Zambia-Ethiopia Business Forum to spearhead and exploit investment opportunities between the two countries.
The gathering also observed a moment of silence in honour if Zambia’s 5th President, His Excellency Michael Chilufya Sata, who passed on the day.
And representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Ketema Haile, who is Director in charge of for Northern, Western, Central & Southern African Affairs, extolled the warm relations between Zambia and Ethiopia.
The dinner culminated the activities the Embassy carried out to in the past week to commemorate the independence anniversary.
Mr. Mwamba laid wreaths at Gulele Cemetery to remember the 75 Zambians fallen heroes of the World War II that lie in Ethiopia.
Mr. Mwamba also planted trees on Zambia Street located in the central business district of Addis Ababa.
