Zambian top referee off to Egypt

Top Zambian referee Jan Sikazwe has been named among the 26 center referees set to officiate at the Egypt 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The list also includes 30 assistant referees.

The Continent’s football governing body, CAF confirmed the development on their official Twitter account. Sikazwe is among the seven officials from COSAFA region listed on the official document to officiate at the 32nd AFCON tournament.

The man from Kapiri Mposhi is no stranger to the big stage has been part of the 2018 World Cup officiating team, CHAN 2018 and 2017 U20 World Cup. He was also in charge of the 2017 AFCON final, The reply of South Africa vs Senegal match and the 2016 Club World cup final between Spanish giants Real Madrid and Japanese club Kashima Antlers.

Victor Gomes of South Africa, Bakary Papa Gassama of the Gambia and Bamlak Tessema of Ethiopia are among the top officials from the Continent that will join the man from Kapiri Mposhi in Egypt. Others include Joshua Bondo the man who was in charge of Zambia vs Nigeria World Cup qualifier in which Zambia was denied a clear goal.

Tunisia has the highest number of referees on the list with three while Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt have two each.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will kick off on the 21st of June and will up to July 19th. The Chipolopolo boys miss out having come out last on their qualifying group behind Guinea Bissau, Namibia, and Mozambique.
