Zambia has been chosen to host the regional secretariat for the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals -SDG’s.
The office will be the United Nations regional secretariat for SDGs in the Southern African Development Community -SADC- region.
Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji says the regional office will be launched in June this year in Lusaka and the event is expected to be attended by all SADC member countries.
Mr. Malanji was speaking in Johannesburg, South Africa when he transited from a SADC meeting in Namibia.
He said Zambia’s hosting of the secretariat was announced at the just ended SADC meeting held in Windhoek, Namibia.
Mr. Malanji said the secretariat will be a third regional organ that Zambia will be hosting apart from Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by First Secretary Press and Public Relations at the Zambian High Commission in South Africa, Naomi Nyawali.
