The MTN/FAZ Super League finally resumed successfully on Sunday after a failed attempt on Saturday when the Forest Rangers v Zanaco game was postponed to a later date due to health concerns.
The doubleheader scheduled for Sunday however went on as planned. In the early kick, Buildcon hosted Power Dynamos in a tricky encounter.
Power Dynamos dominated the early exchanges with Larry Bwalya threading beautiful passes in the middle of the park and Dave Daka leading the line with Boston Banda. Abayellow was forced to make a substitution just six minutes into the match due to injury as Fred Mulambia made way for Godfrey Ngwenya who was making only his second appearance in close to a year.
Perry Mutapa’s charges took the lead 16 minutes into the match as Biston Banda finished off Dave Daka’s cross from close range. The goal was his first for Abayellow since joining them from Buildcon at the start of the year.
The hosts who were in sixes and sevens in the first half came from the break a different side and only needed a few seconds to level matters with the captain of the side, Chanda Mushili heading in Paul Musamali’s cross from close range.
Abayellow took control of the game again and Buildcon had goalkeeper Tresor Ndjomo Ndjana to thank for keeping the scores level as he made save after save.
Ndjana made a number of impressive saves including a double save towards the end of the match.
Second-half substitute George Chisala released a powerful low drive that was kept out by an outstretched Ndjana and the rebound fell to Kennedy Musonda, Who again was denied by Ndjana thanks to his quick reaction hurting himself in the process, 1-1 the match finished and the Cameroonian was named as the man of the match for his heroics.
Power Dynamos have moved to 7th place with 38 points while Buildcon remains 15th with 26 points. Buildcon will host Nakambala Leopards in their last game in hand on Wednesday while Power will have to wait until August 1st to square off against Corona hard-hit Forest Rangers.
The second match of the day saw defending Champions, Zesco United welcome relegation-threatened Mabanga boys, Kansanshi Dynamos.
It was a match that started slowly with both teams failing to make clear cut chances early on. The hosts were forced to make two substitutions in the first half due to injuries to Adrian Chama and Tafadzwa Rusike who were replaced by David Owino and Misheck Chaila respectively.
After a goalless first half, Kansanshi Dynamos took the lead three minutes into the second stanza as Clement Mwape turned Eric Yema’s cross into his own net. Team ya Ziko leveled matters in the 73rd minute as Jesse Jackson Were raced his way into the box after a nice ball behind the last defender, With only Scot Mwanza to beat, The Kenyan did well and scored his 13th league and 97th for Zesco United since his arrival in the country back in 2016.
Neither side could find a winner though the ending was a nervy one for both teams. Zesco moves into the top four with 43 points while Kansanshi Dynamos remain 14th on the log with relegation very much a possibility.
Next for the Solwezi based outfit is a tricky encounter against Green Eagles at the Solwezi Independence Stadium on 1st August while Zesco is away to Lusaka Dynamos that same weekend.
