ZAMBIA PLEDGES TO ASSIST MALAWI, ZIM

President Edgar Lungu says Zambia has a responsibility to assist neighbouring countries that have been affected by cyclone Idai.
President Lungu said plans are being assessed on how best to assist Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Speaking when he arrived at Chipata Airport today on a three-day working visit, President Lungu urged Zambians to be prudent with food saying this is because the country can be affected by the prevailing weather conditions in the region.
Meanwhile, President Lungu has urged the PF in Eastern Province to unite.
He said party elections must not create divisions in the party.
He observed that PF has the strongest democracy which most members and opposition parties must emulate.
And Eastern province minister Makebi Zulu has assured the Head of State that the province has enough food and that there is peace in the province.
At the same occasion PF provincial chairperson Andrew Lubusha said the party is intact.
The President has since proceeded to pay a courtesy call on Chief Mpezeni at Iphendukeni palace.
The Head of State will later hold a private meeting with Paramount Chief Gawa Undi at Nyaviombo in Chipata.
In the afternoon, The President will proceed to Sinda for the commissioning of the Sinda office administration block and pay a courtesy call on Chieftainess Nyanje.
President Lungu will also flag off the distribution of relief Food for Eastern Province.
On Friday, the President is scheduled to Commission a Technical School in Petauke District which is named after him and inspect Kalindawalo General Hospital.
The President will also pay a courtesy call on Chief Kalindawalo, Chief Nyampande, Chief Mumbi, and Chieftainess Mwanjabantu.
On Saturday, President Lungu will hold a meeting with PF officials at Chipata College of Education before departing for Lusaka.
