Lusaka, Zambia24 – (8-09-2024) – The New Dawn Administration, under the leadership of the United Party for National Development (UPND), has marked significant progress in its three years in office.
Fr. Frank Bwalya, Director General of the UPND Presidential Campaign Media Team, provided journalists at a media briefing held in Solwezi with an update on the administration’s accomplishments and future initiatives, which he believes will foster ongoing growth and opportunity for Zambia.
Bwalya commended the administration’s achievements, particularly in infrastructure, highlighting the successful completion of major road projects.
He acknowledged that some projects from the previous Patriotic Front (PF) administration are still in progress but reassured that the UPND is committed to their completion.
“The UPND has continued to push forward with road development,” Bwalya stated. “Although not all projects are finished, our commitment to completing the key roads is evident.”
He also addressed the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which has allocated K3.6 million per community for new schools and clinic expansions.
Bwalya emphasized the role of Ward Development Committees in overseeing these funds and encouraged communities to maximize their use.
“These committees are crucial for the successful execution of projects,” Bwalya noted.
Youth empowerment remains a priority, though the uptake of related funds has varied by province.
Bwalya expressed optimism for increased youth engagement with these resources, stating, “We expect more youths to apply for these funds to boost their economic opportunities.”
In the energy sector, Bwalya highlighted the government’s push for sustainable solutions.
New policies now allow independent power producers to connect to the national grid, and several companies have installed solar panels.
“The government has implemented policies to facilitate grid connections for independent power producers,” Bwalya explained.
Bwalya also addressed global fuel supply challenges due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and tensions in the Middle East.
He assured that the government has secured commitments to maintain fuel supply and price stability.
“We have made arrangements to ensure fuel supply and price stability despite global disruptions,” he said.
Looking ahead, Bwalya hinted at the development of a new mine expected to generate job opportunities.
He stressed the importance of community involvement in sustaining progress.
“The government has made significant strides, but it is essential for people to take advantage of these opportunities and support ongoing development,” Bwalya concluded.
